LIVE REPORT: Sanremo 2010 - The fourth night

The fourth night in the 60th Sanremo festival is about to begin. I will follow it here live. Tonight we will know the newcomers or Nuova Generazione winner! And the duets. And on top of that also Tokyo Hotel who are ready to say anything to get headlines, or "performing live in TV is great, anything can happen. Maybe one of us will get naked!"

21.14 Antonella Clerici is on stage after Bob Sinclair who opened the night.
21.22 after some very boring comic act the televote has been opened
21.24 the first singer has been announced. Wow that was fast for Sanremo!
Malika Ayane with Sabrina Brazzo and the dancers of Teatro Alla Scala - Ricomincio da qui 5/5
She just gets better. Shame she had to open the night as it would have been nicer to hear her a bit later but as said, she's great and the song suits her perfectly. Possible winner - if not here in the charts later.
21.29 the show goes very Eurovision like at least until now, next song on stage already!
Simone Cristicchi with the choir of miners of Santa Fiora – Meno Male 3/5
Not sure if the choir suits this a bit chaotic entry with questionable lyrics. I'd love to hate this song but somehow I secretly like it a bit.... and the live orchestra fits and ads to this one nicely.
21.34 it's a bit confusing but right after comes another song.... I wonder when we will get to the newcomers so poor Jessica can perform tonight before it hits midnight and we are saved from a videotape!
Irene Grandi with actor Marco Cocci - La cometa di Halley 3/5
One of the favourites. The duet works pretty well and becomes a typical Italian rockpop number with rusty voices, both female and male. But is it so special after all?
21.43 after a break we go on with the songs....
Irene Fornaciari ft Nomadi with Mousse T & Suzie    – Il mondo piange 4/5
The song's good. I like it. Suzie ads the lyrics in English and it sounds really good! Good combination of the voices but what did Mouse T do? 4/5
21.50 ok, there's something wrong on stage and La Clerici had to occupy the time with something and comes out majestic with cheering the audience and handles the situation like a real pro. Love that woman! And now we have Miss Italy on stage..... but here comes next song, and favourite.
Marco Mengoni with Solis String Quartet - Credimi ancora 4/5
The string arrangement fits the song but I still prefer to fuller sound. Mengoni uses his voice like an instrument and one can question if his way of singing is brilliant or annoying? I would say brilliant in the full version, this stripped one borders annoying.
21.58 a lot of noise from the audience while announcing the next act....and here go all the rules out of the window. The artists are not supposed to talk and promote but Marcello Lippi, Italian national football team's couch takes the microphone and bla blas forever... Pupo, Emanuele Filiberto, Luca Canonici with the Divas and with non singing partecipation of Marcello Lippi - Italia, amore mio 0/5
Who really wants to listen to a song like this? Nothing against Italy, mind you I love it but... football couches, 80's hasbeens, ex-princes... and three opera divas dressed as Italian flag (so Magic oh magic 1985)... O santo cielo.... che schifo! People boo and applaude. Maybe boos for the song and applause because it's over? And for football? Ok, we do need a break after this! The news!
22.13 J.Lo aka Jennifer Lopez on stage now! After the song an interview:  Is she still the same girl she was? Yes, of course she is, like anybody else. And her body? Yes, of course she is just like every other girl. And will her children grow up like her? Yes of course, just in a house a bit bigger than she had when child.... Ok! 22.27 and the talk goes on and on....
22.30 finally we get back to business....
Valerio Scanu with  Alessandra Amoroso - Per tutte le volte che 4/5
I must say I didn't warm up much to this song at first but it gets better and better. And stays in your head and before you know you are humming it. It dropped already once but like Sal Da Vinci last year this might end up from the second chance round to top-3. But I prefer his solo version to this duet one....
22.37 and the show continues after a little confusion where's the conductor? No conductor for Arisa and the "girls" tonight....
Arisa & Sorelle Marinetti with Lino Patruno Jazz Band – Malamorenò 5/5
I woke up this morning singing this song and kept singing it all day at work so is that a sign of something? Little number than makes you happy and has a huge feel-good factor. But will italians fall in love with her once again like last year? I hope so, I prefer this one to Sinceritá, no doubt!
22.42 looks like the jazz band has wanted to do an impromptu performance before we got to the next song.... It's Ruggeri with his ex-band Decibel - together again. And with glasses again, just like 30 years ago.
Enrico Ruggeri with  Decibel -  La notte delle fate 1/5
I don't know but this song gives me nothing. Boring. Nothing to say.
22.49 after that boredom we move on...
Noemi with Kataclò - Per tutta la vita 4/5
I like this one, too. Actually the level of the songs is pretty good even if none of them is something megasuperfantastic. Noemi has an interesting voice and the song is decent with a nice hook.
22.57 we are almost there, two more songs left by the Big or Artisti and here comes
Fabrizio Moro with Jarabe De Palo – Non è una canzone 3-/5
Some pseudo-reggaerap with nicely annoying la la las. Like Cristicchi's song I should hate this but it has something and the big orchestra is at full blast.
23.03 and the last song by the Big
Povia with Marco Masini – La verità 1,5/5
This duet must have sounded great in paper but no, I don't think it works, nor this arrangement. Yawn... Now let's see if we can get poor Jessica on stage before midnight! I still can't believe they didn't manage to get her on stage in 3 hours... who was in charge for the running order?? Knowing there was an underage who can't "work" after midnight they didn't manage to do that? And showed a video instead. Dalla serie "Solo in Italia!"
23.11 plagiation discussions running wild on radio. Both Ruggeri and Povia....And with these thoughts it's good to have a break....
23.14 and here we go again with Jenny from the block, Jennifer Lopez! Waiting for tonight :-) Me thinks Tokyo Hotel is then tomorrow night. I thought it was the other way round.
23.24 and here she finally comes: the only singer in history that has went through a qualification round even never being on stage in person, Jessica Brando. And we move on to the newcomers or Nuova Generazione. Jessica Brando- Dove non ci sono ore 2/5
The song isn't much and her vibrato gets a bit annoying but in all not bad considering she's ... what? 15? The people with nasty tongue say she only got to final because of the yesterday's incident, otherwise it would caused even bigger a scandal and more speculation..... And quite frankly, there were better songs and singers to qualify for the final!
23.29 and we move on to the next newcomer...
Tony Maiello – Il linguaggio della resa 2/5
Usually the newcomer's songs have been better than the Big ones, but this year it's not so. Another boring useless song that gives nor takes anything. Rather forced performance by Tony.
23.36 and we go on with the fourth newcomers finalist
Luca Marino – Non mi dai pace 3,5/5
Well, now this is better. he has a nice different voice and the song develops nicely. Oldfashioned yes but good. Out of these three songs so far clearly the best!
23.40 and the last one right after welcomed by a huge applause. Maybe the winner?
Nina Zilli – L’uomo che amava le donne 4/5
A simil tango conducted by Andrea Miró, Enrico Ruggeri's better half. She has a voice you can recognise and the song's very entertaining. Another strong new female artist in Italy is born. Let's see what the televoters think...
23.52 stop to televotes. Soon we will know who wins the newcomers or Nuova Generazione and who of the big or Artisti will be eliminated from tomorrow's final.... and it's time for a little break!
00.03 it's midnight and Bob Sinclair back on stage.
00.12 and the winner of the Nuova Generazione is... Tony Maiello...He's crying in arms of mamma Antonella Clerici and looks like he is unable to sing his song again..... Yes he can even if the notes are mostly the wrong ones but who cares, he's a winner!
00.28 oh they are here after all: Tokyo Hotel.
00.32 and all we need now are the names of the two eliminated ones....
00.38 Irene Fornaciari ft Nomadi in finale. Simone Cristicchi. Valerio Scanu. Povia. Malika Ayane. Arisa. Noemi.. Irene Grandi. Marco Mengoni and... Pupo & co. ... and here explodes the whistling and booing in the Teatro Ariston!!!!!! So Enrico Ruggeri and Fabrizio Moro are definately eliminated. And that's all for tonight. It's 00.45. Buona notte!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2013: SERBIA'S BIG GUNS

Serbia is one of the most succesful Eurovision countries in the recent years and this blogger 's favorites. This year I am again very curiously waiting for their entry and what they will offer us when they have a national final once again after last year's internal selection. Many bigger and smaller names have been rumored to have sent a song, or have confirmed so themselves. Among then a 63-year-old disco diva Neda Ukraden , Eurovision veteran Vukašin Brajić 's OT Band, Danijel Pavlovic who is Marija Serifovic's step-brother, national final veteran Ana Nikolic and other names like Nenad Cvijetic , Dejan Petrovic, Zejna , Ivana Pavkovic , Vanja Mijatovic .... Let's see who really are in when the final 15 out of 80 will be announced for the March 2, 2013 final. These 15 will be cut to five for the superfinal by televoting. Then we have Bojan Bjelic , who apparently was sending his song Mora before he decided not to blaming the contest is fixed and Serbian

Summer songs: Samantha Fox & Sabrina - Call me

Summertime is the time for cover versions and remixes. The late 1980's war of the boombs is over when Samantha and Sabrina put their bras together and cover Blondie's Call me in peace and harmony. Amore, chiamami!

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

Blogilkar exclusive: PASHA PARFENI INTERVIEW

My flying reporter Robert managed to get hold on Pasha Parfeni from Moldova today who has become during this week pretty big favorite to do well. How did he end up in Eurovision, what his goals are and is his granny better than the ones from Buranovo? And will we get a cover album full of Eurovision later on? Find it out here: Why do you want to participate in Eurovision? That's a very difficult question... I want to be a star! A worldstar, ha ha! But I know it's not easy even in Eurovision, only Celine Dion and ABBA have made it. But I can make myself a bit more known, it's good for promotion. After Eurovision I will finish my album and my promo-CD already has nine songs. We will recod maybe 4-5 more and it will make a good album. With what result will you be happy here? Happy? … Top-10! Then I'll be absolutely happy! So if you don't get to the final you will be totally depressed? Yes, maybe... Yes, it would be hard. For me and my team. What are y

Et voilà! Anggun presents Echo (You and I)

So today we finally heard the French entry in Eurovision 2012 in Baku by Anggun. Echo (You and I ) is rather bizarre mix of many things and just when you think you get it the songs takes a turn to another direction. Whistling all along. Very catchy it is. Call it an earworm if you want. Still I wouldn't scream a winning entry but... we will see. In Patricia Kaas like ending me thinks.

Blogilkar Exclusive: RAMBO AMADEUS INTERVIEW

My flying reporter Robert met Rambo Amadeus in his hotel this morning and what an interesting and entertaining meet it was! Unfortunately the time wasn't enough as this man has lots to tell about many topics. However, here are the main things! Thank you Rambo for this interview and first of all, how an earth Montenegro wanted you to represent them in Eurovision? I don't know! I really don't know. I didn't want to ask any questions why they wanted me. So they came to you, you didn't go to them? Of course. Everybody comes to me..... And everybody knows you and that you are bit, maybe a lot, Eurovision skeptic. Why did they come to you then? Well, I think they want the audience to pay attention to them? I think the new, young and ambitious director of RTCG decided to do some kind of shock therapy. He probably thinks there's nothing to lose. I asked him "Are you sure? Do you know my work?" and he said yes. I think they are learning how to g

REMEMBERING MARILYN MONROE

It's 50 years since Marilyn Monroe passed away on August 5, 1962. Her legend still lives on and there's no doubt she got "it". Probably very much misunderstood and surely underrated she remains one of the biggest stars on this planet ever. How many fans have really seen her movies, I mean all of them? Not only the 2-3 most successful ones where she played pretty much the same dumb blond? Thee's so much more to her if you watch all her work.... And had she lived. She would be 86 now.  Like this .
