DENMARK. HOW INVINCIBLE, UNBREAKABLE THEY ARE?

Danish TV has put the full songs online and this blogger takes a moment to listen them through. As usual a very strong line up in Denmark, and I am repeting myself but usually the Danish entries I like a lot don't do well in Eurovision, and the other way round. Let's see how it goes this year! By hearing only the songs are very hard to judge, as I like most of them. Or let me rephrase that: I can listen them without problems and wanting to turn them off after a minute as usually happens with most of the national selection songs - all those hundreds of them a true fan and blogger has to hear every winter. The live performance and staging can kill a song, or make it stand out so I think the competition is that department is more crucial than ever this year. There is no clear favorite it seems and it all comes down to those three minutes this Saturday... I had two clear favorites in the end.... or maybe three. Listen yourself here.

1. Frederikke - Jeg har hele tiden vidst det ***
A song in Danish opens the show and it's a fresh pop song. I like the sound and the arrangement and it all sounds very Danish indeed. (Whatever that means)

2. Brinck - Human ***
Brinck returns and his song is quite different from his previous effort that I liked a lot. This one has quite an acoustic feel to it. Not bad, but in this line up unfortunately not among the best ones...
3. Kate Hall - I'm not alone ***1/2
One of the favourites and no wonder why. This is popstastic in Kati Wolf way. Only Kati was stronger vocally and also had a stronger melodyline.

4. Louise Dubiel - Rejs dig op **
This sticks out from the usual pop formula a bit but I don't think this is very interesting or strong. (This said, this propably wins, lol) It starts, goes on and ends up nowhere....

5. Daze - We own the universe **
Back to the 1990's. In Finland Movetron tried to relive their 90's glory in national finals but it didn't work out that well (nor in Latvia or was it Lithuania they tried last year, too) and I doubt this will work in Denmark either. Nothing original, just nice familiar sounds and melodylines in this one...

6. Simone - Stay awake ***
A very haunting intro but then ... the snippet was much more promising than this is in the end. Sounds like an easy number to stage for dancers and stuff. Somehow this sounds very familiar at times.... what is it? Nice drums though.

7. Jack Rowan feat. Sam Gray - Invincible ****
Clearly the most interesting track so far. I like Sam's vocals, the song develops and grows and one can imagine a huge light show with this one :-) This follows a bit the Loreen sound, and Carola already tried to be invincible once but how did that end? Somehow also this lacks the last gear to make it really something good....

8. Emmelie De Forest - Only teardrops *****
Interesting voice, nice guitars and... it only gets better! Brings back memories of Titanic (in a good way), it's catchy and memorable the way Soluna Sumay was that I loved and what happened to her? Anyways, my favourite so far by far!

9. Albin - Beautiful to me *****
This was my favorite from the snippets and yes, it is very good. Not the typical Danish or Swedish bubblegum europop but close, the chorus is very catchy and memorable even if not very original. But in a right place, right time surely works wonders! Catchy melody, nice arrangement. Great voice, too.

10. Mohamed Ali - Unbreakable **
With a name like that one should be unbeatable, not unbreakbale. This is the Danish Eric Saade/Danny Saucedo type song that there are 13 in a dozen. Unfortunately one of the favorites, if I have understood right. Nothing wrong with him, good singer and easy on the eye but the song lacks all originality in every way possible. And it isn't even very catchy is it? As they say: lacks taste, smell and feel.... can you remember it afterwards? I can't. But I'm sure he puts on a good show on stage...

Carola came fifth with Invincible. Do you think she deserved more? I hope you answer i really want to know what you think on this one.

Considering the songs that were ahead of her, I think she got pretty much what she deserved. The Swedes of course expected more!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

MALTA: THE QUEEN OF L-GHANJA TAL-POPLU - CORAZÓN MIZZI!

If The Travellers have proven recently one can do great singing in Maltese there's also someone else doing great stuff: Corazón Mizzi. While in Malta I was looking for some Maltese CDs only to find out they pretty much don't exist, and the most helpful staff in legendary D'Amato - probably the world's oldest record store today - suggested me Corazón's Hawn jien (2014 album). Having nothing else really to bring home I decided to go or it without even realizing it is the Corazón from Maltese Eurovision selections. And what a find it was! Thank you D'Amato! But let's start from the obvious: Eurovision. Corazón has been offering us songs in the Maltese Eurovision selection since 2009, actually making her best result this year with Falling glass , one of my favorites btw. I also liked last year's Secretly but that failed even the final. But Corazón's true calling is singer-songwriter in Maltese as this excellent album clearly shows. We have al

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

GREECE: HELENA PAPARIZOU HITS AGAIN WITH HAIDE

Eurovision song contest 2005 winner Helena Paparizou has been enjoying Top-5 hits every year since 2003 with the exception of 2010 and 2014, this latest one being already her 27th! And Haide is charting also in Bulgaria and Finland, of all places. The catchiness of her hits has changed less over the years than her face....  Here's the English version , below the Greek version.

FINLAND: CONGRATS HANNA PAKARINEN - BABY IS COMING!

No more leave me alones as Eurovision 2007 veteran Hanna Pakarinen has published in her Youtube channel a video unboxing the Finnish state's maternity box aka layette set thus announcing she's due to have a baby later this spring. Congratulations!

Regina Lund - naked and censored

Regina Lund's new video Jag är osynlig was censored by Youtube only minutes after it had been uploaded. In the video she was playing a female Jesus who gets crusified in the end. "I was shocked!" she says. "There's nothing more naked in it as in every church! It's ok to have naked man hanging on the wall but my nakedness is too much on internet? ". Oh well, no comment. She's prepairing a new album Dare Regina Lund and we of course remember her from her Melodifestivalen 2007 adventure with Rainbow star .
